I didn’t really understand what it was like to be friends with me until I really understood what it was like for things to fall apart.
Sure, I’ve had my fair share of friends come and go for different reasons. We all have. So, we all know what it’s like to experience the total ruin of losing a friend to something stupid or something serious.
Lots of things can come between people, but that’s not what I want to focus on.
Losing friends has helped me understand the love I have for the ones I keep.
Doug and I love deeply when we make up our mind to love. It takes a minute, but we will do what we feel us the absolute best for you, even if it means letting you go and it took understanding why that hurt so badly to realize what we were doing right.
GOD calls us to love one another as we love ourselves. Most of us are terrible at loving ourselves, so we’re terrible at loving other people. A lot of the time, I think I’m pretty disposable, but get me started on certain people named Doug, Jaime, Linda, Paul, or Margie (to name a few) and I’ll try to convince you that they are worth 100 of me. So, GOD has granted me the example instead to love people the way He loves me. I still suck at it, but it’s a way better model of love.
The people I keep? Are the ones in whose friendship GOD’s Love is best shown. The best part? In the same way, each of my friendships helps me understand a little more of GOD’s Love for us.
For example, none of these people have a check list of what I’ve done right and wrong, how long it’s been since I’ve called, or weighs my actions against the rest of their friends to see how I measure up. GOD also, does none of those things.
The answer to this series? Good old fashioned, discomforting, tough, inconvenient: Love
Love is thicker than blood.
